This year at The Swan Princess we have been working hard to move all of our inventory into a brand new warehouse! Preparations for this have included organizing all of our art cels and pencil sketches for easier transport and storage. As we have been sorting through the incredible animation museum that is our warehouse, we have found some really incredible and unique pieces of Swan Princess history that were just too swanderful to not share with our amazing fans! Therefore, we would like to proudly present our new series:

Awesome Things We Found in the Warehouse Today!

The 8th of this month was International Women's Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. In honor of the feminist icon that is Princess Odette we are exploring the design process that brought us the courageous, independent, and feisty teen Odette in the song "This is My Idea".

This close-up of the above pencil sketch shows the original design for Teen Odette's outfit. She was in a floor length dress with cape sleeves over long fitted sleeves, boots, and her signature braids.

Here you can see her design fleshed out a little more with her facial features and freckles added. Her sleeves have also become more blousy and her shoes have turned into sleek flats. Watching her run from the treehouse in her long dress we can imagine it would be a frustrating outfit for a young princess as spirited and energetic as Odette.

That was fixed in the later rough pencil sketches with this design. Her dress was swapped for an over-tunic and leggings with a blousy shirt underneath. She's back to boots but these one's only come up to the ankle. She keeps her braids and freckles but her face becomes more rounded and as you can see in the animator's notes on blue pencil to the right of the image; more teeth and tongue visibility is added to show her sass.

With just a few adjustments to her face and a clean up of the lines on the tunic we are brought the final pencil image that was used to create the animation cel for this sequence. We love this tom-boy version of Teen Odette and love that she was given a fighting spirit- something that wasn't seen in in its contemporary princess animation.

You can purchase these one-of-a-kind swan princess art pieces, or another pencil sketch or art cel by emailing odette@swanprincessseries.com

This month we are celebrating the birthday of Mister Lorenzo Trudgealong, but his friends call him Speed!

This means Speed is a Pisces in the zodiac and aquamarine is his birthstone.

Pisces is the most intuitive and sympathetic of the zodiac signs and always goes out of their way to make sure everyone around them is happy. They are gentle, kind, and always ready to listen. They are very friendly and selfless.

Because it is so easy for the Pisces to make friends, they are often friends with many different kinds of people with strong personalities. They are the glue that hold these relationships together. Pisces are very tolerant and always willing to help others, no matter the situation; they often neglect their own self-care in the process.

Aquamarine symbolizes courage and friendship. It can also be used to improve communication skills and encourage quick response.

We think this sounds just like Speed!

Is your birthday in March or do you just like the color blue? Purchase your Aquamarine Birthstone Locket here!

Question: Is there a Swan Princess live stage musical? Will there ever be one?
Answer: Great question! There is not currently an official Swan Princess stage musical available to perform. However, there have been licensed performances of the story such as this version by the Kaast  Performing Arts Center that you can see here. If you are interested in performing a Swan Princess stage show, you can email us at Odette@SwanPrincessSeries.com and request licensing rights. We would love to see the creativity you come up with!

 Dear Diary:

Spring is in the air at long last! I was hoping to try my hand at organizing a garden party as practice for planning Bridget’s wedding, but it’s been so wet and rainy! Even today, the Spring Equinox, it started snowing! The flowers won’t be able to bloom through the snow. Without the blooms, there will be no garden parties. At times like these, you just need to say “Yes and…” when things don’t go the way you plan. That’s what my father always taught me. I wonder if he learned it from my mother… hm. If it’s bad weather outside, perhaps I could plan a party inside, but what of the garden aspect? We would need flowers, wouldn’t we? But then it dawned on me, who says the flowers need to be actual flowers? What of ones made from paper or carved from fruits? I still could make this the best garden party yet! I just need a little help from all my friends!
