Waves of Words English Intern Program

Join the incredible Professor WOW, aka Seldon Young (the producer of The Swan Princess series) on a SWANtastic adventure in Thailand!

Many will remember the devastating Boxing Day Tsunami over 20 years ago. Seldon Young was staying nearby when this tragedy struck and saw first hand the level of destruction and how it impacted the lives of those involved. Since then, Seldon has dedicated a huge amount of resources and time to the people of Ban Nam Khem, particularly the children in the community. From building skills, providing materials and adding some fun back into their lives, this cause remains close to his heart.

As part of the ongoing support to the children of Ban Nam Khem, we are pleased to showcase the Waves of Words program, where we invite individuals to join the community in Thailand and assist with building schools, teaching English through play and enhancing the spirit of community.

All costs will be covered for your three month adventure so sign up now for this incredible opportunity to make a difference today!

Rustic Rhubarb Crumble

This rustic crumble is a real favorite of Odette's - sometimes she even adds a scoop of delicious vanilla ice cream too!

Try out this SWANtastically simple (and extremely tasty) crumble recipe for yourself! You can serve it with cream, custard, some ice cream or just enjoy it on it's own!

Ingredients:

For the Filling:

• 2 lbs rhubarb stalks, cut into about 0.5 inch pieces

• 1/4 cup all-purpose purpose flour

• 1-1/3 cups sugar

• 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

• 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

• 1/4 tsp ground ginger

For the Crumble:

• 1 cup all purpose flour

• 1 stick of cold butter, diced into cubes (plus extra for greasing)

• 1 cup light brown sugar

• 1/2 tsp salt

Method:

1. Preheat the oven to 375F/190C.

2. Now, lightly butter a 9"x13" baking dish.

3. Take a large bowl and add all of your ingredients for the filling (rhubarb, flour, sugar, vanilla, ginger and cinnamon).

4. Stir the filling ingredients together until well combined.

5. Add the flour, sugar and salt for the crumble topping to another bowl and whisk well.

6. Combine the butter into the flour mix using your fingers until mixture looks like breadcrumbs crumbs.

7. Next, spread the rhubarb mix into the pan that you prepared earlier.

8. Take your crumble mix and sprinkle it evenly over the top of the rhubarb.

9. Bake for 40-45 minutes (until the filling is bubbling and the top of the crumble is golden).

10. Allow the crumble to cool for approx. 20 minutes before serving.

Pretty Princess Petals

Enjoy some floral fun with this SWANderful craft! You can even use this craft to make a beautiful Mother's Day gift! Alise and Odette love to use their favorite colors and see the different combinations of petals and flowers that they can make!

Will you design flowers that look like the ones in your garden or create a fantasy flower of your own creation?

You Will Need:

Colored/Patterned Cup Cake Liners (or you can use white ones and decorate them)

Popsicle Sticks

Green Paint

Green Paper

Buttons or Small Pom Poms

Glue Scissors

Method:

1. Firstly, paint your Popsicle sticks green - you'll have to paint one side and allow it to dry before doing the other side.

2. Whilst your Popsicle sticks dry, draw a leaf shape onto the green paper and carefully cut it out. Leave the leaves to one side.

3. When your Popsicle sticks are dry. Take your first cupcake holder and make cuts from the outer edge to the center (make sure to leave a gap in the center that is large enough for your button or pom pom and to avoid your petals falling off).

4. Glue the back of the center of your flower to the top of a Popsicle stick.

5. Glue the edge of your leaf to the Popsicle stick.

6. Use your glue again to secure a button or pom pom to the center of your flower.

SWANtastic Tip - After step 4, you can take a smaller cupcake holder (or cut a normal one into a smaller circle) and repeat step 3 before adding it to the center of your first flower to make a unique design.

This month we are celebrating the birthday of the regal King William. This makes his zodiac sign Taurus and his birthstone the emerald.

Taurus people are reliable and down-to-earth. They are very stubborn and love to set patterns in life. They make loyal friends as they are wonderful at staying the course of life's ups and downs to be forever supportive of those they love.

Taurus love all things romantic and will throw themselves into finding true love for themselves and others (even if that means making your daughter spend summers with the prince you think is 'the one').

Taurus are loving and soothing to be around, this makes them great parents especially for young children.

They have very strong opinions and tend to stick to them. While this makes them passionate it can also make them seem unadventurous or close-minded.

The emerald symbolizes balance, growth, peace, and foresight. King William certainly showed great foresight in his choice of match for Odette!

We think this sounds just like King William! Is your birthday in May or do you just love the color green?
